Why is Pilates helpful for rehab specifically? Zeina Grifoni, MPT explains why she uses Pilates in her rehabilitation program. Pilates helps maintain good alignment and posture, it can prevent hunching of the shoulders that can cause impingement or even spinal deformities over time, even in young people who, if not corrected, may develop scoliosis. Pilates has proven to be great for rehab because it is a gentle form of movement, it helps to stretch and lengthen the body, and it does not have a lot of impact loading, and finally it can be done while supporting the body.
