Pilates powerhouse is the Pilates classical term and applies to:

  • Deep abdominals (obliques and transverse abdominus)
  • Gluts
  • Inner thighs (adductors)

These are the muscles that Pilates himself thought that we should be focused on strengthening. Joe Pilates is one of the first people to suggest that the deep abdominal muscles were important to strengthen- it was not until in the 1990’s that research was done on these muscles to prove that they were able to stabilize the spine or “core”. His posture reflects the emphasis on glut work/strengthening and the goal of flattening the spine
